There were only a few things Harley disliked about her job as a private investigator and bail enforcement agent. She disliked how people were under the assumption that she was some kind of badge-wearing-no-good-individual who wanted nothing but to take down criminals regardless if it was a petty crime or not. Harley admits, it was quite a bonus, but in reality, what she wanted was the money of catching someone who skipped bail and doing something right like finding a person for their loved ones. It came to no surprise to Harley when people fed her misinformation or excluded information when she approached them for info. No matter how many times she flashed her PI license and assured them she couldn’t make any kind of arrests (though if they did something illegal, she could and she wasn’t about to tell any of them that), they still wouldn’t budge.
It took nearly two weeks for Harley to finally get something out of her list of contacts related to her missing person: Jacob Watkins. Jacob was only a teenage kid who was in and out of juvy since the age of 13, now 16. He only had one parent in his life and that was his working mom Hannah Watkins who reported to the cops of his disappearance after almost 12 hours of not returning home like he promised he would, only to get turned away. Law enforcement couldn’t pursue anyone missing unless the individual has been missing for 24 hours. Lucky for Hannah, she was given Harley’s contact details from a friend who worked at the precinct she had gone to. Eventually – after 24 hours that is, the cops started a missing person’s case on Jacob, but Harley knew better. She knew that the cops would get stomped and would likely sit on it for a while till they got some kind of tip or new information. That wasn’t something Harley liked and it was one of the sole reasons she didn’t continue on her path of becoming a badge.
Harley looked down at her attire and was thankful she decided to wear normal clothing that didn’t scream “cop” or someone untrustworthy if there ever was such a thing. The important thing was that she would trust herself if she saw her and that was good enough. After talking to a few people who gave her more information than others, she realized that all of them had the same story on a man who wore a trench coat and was seen talking to Jacob. They even noticed a good amount of bad tension between both of them. Now she was in front of the location in which the confrontation between a guy in a trench coat and Jacob had been witnessed.
The location didn’t surprise her since she knew the types of circles and locations Jacob often visited just from the information she had uncovered over the course of two weeks. Standing on a sidewalk in Brooklyn Heights, she noticed a homeless shelter around the corner not far from her view. Where she was standing there wasn’t anything in particular about it. The building that stood in front of her was closed and no longer was open for business. This only meant that either the guy she was looking for is god knows where or close by in one of the buildings around her. Harley’s instinct was to look in the homeless shelter first before going anywhere else.
Headed towards the homeless shelter, she hadn’t expected to see a guy matching the description of probably the last person to ever speak to Jacob, to be walking in front of her only a few yards away. This wasn’t the first time she had this kind of run in. So she approached him like she would anyone else.
“Hey, you!” She called out, semi-running towards him. It didn’t take long for her to reach him of course. Before she knew it, she was tapping on his shoulder. “I have a few questions to ask you. You got some time to spare?”
She didn’t know why she bothered to ask. Harley wasn’t going to take no for answer on speaking to him. At least she’d attempt to bombard him till he agreed to speak if he were busy. How busy can he be anyway? A guy who happened to be around the same location he was in when speaking to Jacob must not be a very busy guy. At least that was what she told herself as she plastered on her smile that she hope came off genuine.

the innocence you stole from these eyes Castiel was troubled. Even more than usual. Not the memories of his past nagged at him, nor did they visit him in his dreams at night. No, a problem of the present demanded all of his attention. It had gotten to the point that Cas found himself unable to move on to the next city or state. He couldn't leave before he was sure the boy was alright. There were other factors that played along, making it practically impossible for the once angel to continue travelling. Even if he had what he wanted, he still wouldn't be able to bring himself to leave. Not if there was a voice that kept telling him to turn around, to get lost in the maze that was New York once more, only to find out what had happened to the young man that was his charge. Jacob Watkins had found him. How was still a mystery to him but the boy had tracked him down - or had found him by accident - and asked Castiel for help. It wasn't the first time the two could be sighted with together. When he was still the angel of Thursday he had been assigned to watch over Jacob. The adventures he got involved in were interesting to say the least. Time after time Cas came back to help him. Every time Jacob prayed, he would come and assist the young man in every way imaginable. As time went by it didn't get any better. The problems took on a bigger size and not even a seraph could keep him out of the claws of law enforcement, always reaching out to grab Jacob from the streets so he would no longer be a danger to himself and others. Their relationship had been ... difficult. Both of them happy and relieved when Castiel had been able to help but sometimes he simply couldn't. There was only so much Cas could do. He had been trapped in Purgatory as well so there was no one to look after him. Unable to hide his frustration over this, unable to hide his own disappointment that he had been terrible at protecting those who needed it, he gritted his teeth and balled his hands to fists, every muscle in his body tense. Needless to say Jacob had made him aware of how useless he had been that entire year. Cas had tried to make up for it and now ... Now there was nothing he could do. Much like him, his charge had to learn to take care of himself, both of them had to learn how to survive. This was something Castiel had tried to make clear but to no avail. Jacob wouldn't listen, didn't want to believe his guardian angel was without his abilities. The dispute took on a bigger proportion, to the extent people stopped to watch the two of them. That was when Cas thought it better to leave. And now he felt horrible. Angel or not, he could always try to help. The boy had looked desperate, he needed his assistance and for once, Castiel couldn't help but feel as if he had sent the boy to meet Death himself. A sigh fell from his lips as he tugged the coat tighter around him and left the shelter. The thoughts and events kept running through his mind, claiming his attention so he didn't even hear how someone called out to him. It wasn't until he felt the hand on his shoulder that Cas came to a standstill. Surprised by the sudden gesture he jumped back, eyes wide. When his gaze met that of the female he calmed down somewhat, repeating her words to himself so he got the request right. "Yes ... Yes, of course." He then stammered and nodded. After heaving in a deep breath he focused his attention on the stranger before him. "My apologies, I was a bit distracted. How can I help?"Go go go team! || tag: Harley Template by Loki @ Proboards Support

Harley wasn’t prepared for the perplexed man to be cordial towards her. She had more unfriendly and uncooperative people come and go in her line of work that sometimes the friendliest people go unnoticed to her. However, even though this man looked to be somewhere in his head, he was able to respond with respect. Even though it didn’t come unnoticed, she was still skeptical about the behavior. There were all types of people around the world and she wasn’t about to hundred percent believe that this guy was for real friendly. There could be a chance it was an act. A part of her knew very well this guy was being genuine, but she was a PI and during her investigations she thought with her head, not with her gut feeling – most times anyway.
Reeling from her thoughts, she gave him a quizzical look before responding to him with a lopsided smile. “Well that’s a first. I don’t get many apologies. I get hit, almost killed or screamed at.” It was just like Harley to slightly over-share. She highly doubted this man wanted to know that she almost gets killed by people she confronts. If he only knew how many times a month her life was threatened. Harley cleared her throat and shrugged as she continued on. “Anyway, you don’t need to apologize for being distracted. I just have a few questions regarding a mutual friend of ours, Jacob Watkins. You were recently seen with him a couple weeks ago when he came up missing. Do you have any idea where he could be?”
She often used the ‘mutual friends’ card not wanting to say anything that could make a person uncooperative. This guy was no exception. They were having such a smooth encounter; she didn’t want to ruin it. After all, the guy was seen arguing with the kid and for all she knew, he had something to do with his disappearance. It was hard to even think that he could be a part of it because she couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting to ask if he was alright. From her stand point, he didn’t look very happy or mad for that matter. Whatever she interrupted, it must have not been pleasant thoughts. Who knows, he could have just had a really bad day. Why did she care if he was a having a bad day? Harley really didn’t like when her gut feeling tried to win over her trying to be practical. It was a battle her gut was going to win if this guy continued to look as innocent as she thought he was.

the innocence you stole from these eyes If the sudden gesture already caught him off guard, then there were no words to describe how Castiel felt when the lady's statement reached him. He blinked a few times in an attempt to process her words. His brows pulled together to form a confused frown, something that characterized the former seraph often. "Why would you harm or kill someone when all that person does, is asking a few questions?" His bright blue eyes locked onto the stranger's gaze before him, the look on his face revealing that an answer to his question would be greatly appreciated. Cas knew that most people ignored his inquiries though, so it wouldn't surprise him if this turned out to be the exact same situation. Now that he had complied, he patiently waited for the female to continue, wondering what all this was about. And then it came: Jacob Watkins. All emotion vanished from his face upon hearing the name. When he thought this day couldn't get any worse, it did. The fact that the boy had gone missing did prove his suspicions: something had happened to his charge. Something he had been afraid of and the thought had plagued him the last few hours. Now wasn't the right time to get carried away by guilt feelings. If this person thought that he could help, then he would try to do so. "I wouldn't say that we are friends," he then started out and looked away, as if Jacob would suddenly appear and walk down the street. Unfortunately for both of them, this wasn't so easy. If the boy didn't want to be found, then he would make sure no one did. "I might have a few ideas but ..." His sentence trailed off as his thoughts claimed his attention. In his mind he went through the various places Jacob might have picked as his place to hide out for a while. Did that mean he would have to tag along with her? Preferably he ventured out on his own to investigate this strange disappearance but such a thing would take days, if not weeks, to figure out where the boy had gone off to. Although this was hard for him, Castiel came to the realization that he had to let go of this and hand the reigns over to someone who was quite probably more skilled than him. All he could do was say what he knew. "He has a few places he likes to go but it varies. One will have to search every single one of them in order to find Jacob."After saying those words Cas' gaze returned to the stranger before him, "How long has he been missing?"Go go go team! || tag: Harley Template by Loki @ Proboards Support

Harley didn’t know what to think of the man in front of her. She was stomped, but it wouldn’t have been the first time, either. Looking as though she were unsure on how to answer something that was obvious to her, she shrugged and answered him honestly. “Be a Private Investigator someday. You’ll find that we aren’t universally liked.”
She didn't fail to see how his expression of curiosity turned to being completely emotionless the moment she had mentioned Jacob or that he no longer looked at her when he spoke. This made her skeptical if not hyperaware. It told her that the guy was guilty of something related to him. It also meant he could just be shocked that Jacob was missing. Harley could never tell until she dug further by keeping a person talking long enough for her to make a solid assessment. For someone who wasn’t quite friends with Jacob, he seemed to know a little bit – at least know actual locations he could be. This guy most likely was holding back on some information, but Harley wasn’t going to pry just yet. She knew when to keep at it and when to put things on hold for a later time.
“About two weeks now.” She answered. Harley then pulled out her personal red notebook and a pen, and then handed it to the man. “If you can write down those locations you were talking about, it’d be much appreciated.”
It may have looked like she had every intention of doing this alone, but it was her way of reeling someone in on the case without her asking for assistance. She wasn’t a person who was keen on asking for help – especially when she normally did her PI work alone with the exception of Reid’s computer skills from time to time. Not only that, she wasn’t too sure about the guy in front of her, either. He was kind of an enigma to her and she wanted to make sure he wasn’t guilty of Jacob’s disappearance. What better way to keep a ‘suspect’ close than to get them to tag along on the case? If she could only get this guy to volunteer to help her, then she wouldn’t wound her pride or look incompetent at her job. “Once I get the locations, the sooner I can check all them out and hopefully bring Jacob back to his mom; preferably in one piece.”

the innocence you stole from these eyes The male grew even more miserable upon hearing how long his charge had been gone for now. It struck him as a miracle that someone was still out, looking for Jacob. As time passed by people slowly started to give up on finding any trace of the missing person. Families were left behind with no answer, no sign or indication that could tell them whether or not their loved one was still alive. Castiel should have looked after his charge but circumstances prevented him from providing any kind of assistance. And now he couldn't let it go. "Yes. Of course," he muttered after which he took the little notebook and pen. Despite his agreement that he would give some addresses, the former angel didn't start to write right away. Instead a pensive look crossed his features, lifting his hand to tap the pen against his cheek. When he was still an angel, he poofed from one place to another. His wings would take him to his destination swiftly for much needed to be done. Back then he had paid attention to his surroundings but he had barely looked at the names of streets or the numbers assigned to the buildings. There was so much he had seen during his existence and now he had to recall a few simple addresses. How hard could it be? Too hard it seemed. Castiel let out a frustrated sigh and closed his eyes, hoping it would help him to concentrate. Wrecking his brain he finally managed to remember something. Opening his eyes he rapidly scribbled the few addresses down on the sheet of paper. "This is all I can remember. I'm not familiar with these surroundings." Yet again an apologetic look became visible upon his face. So far he wasn't doing a great job at being helpful, something he hoped would change soon. Tucking his hands in the pockets of his coat, Cas drew his bottom lip between his teeth and bit down on it. A couple of seconds passed during which he looked a bit hesitant, as if something was on his mind but he didn't know how to approach the matter. It was soon pushed aside. There was no time to dwell on certain things, troubling things. "Is there anything else I can do? I don't think I've been of much help thus far so if there is anything else you need ... I can help." How exactly he was going to help, he didn't know, but just about anything would do for the once seraph. A part of him believed that Jacob might just respond to the sound of his voice when he heard it. The reaction might not be a positive one but it might draw the young man out of hiding. For some reason, when Harley accepted the little notebook back, she expected more addresses. It was likely that she hoped for an easy way out of an obvious long case that she was desperate to solve. When she had looked at Jacob’s room and all the files she could get on him, she had expected a delinquent who was nothing but trouble. To her surprise there was a whole lot of potential that the kid just found himself in really bad situations and hung out with the worst crowd he could find.
After talking to his mother and neighbors, it was obvious that he took very good care of her and was highly respectful when it came to her authority. This wasn’t a kid who hated authority; this was a kid who had a lot of bad luck. Harley sometimes got attached to cases, but she wasn’t going to lie to herself and say that there wasn’t some she wished she never took the job for. Criminals weren’t her friends and the last thing she wanted was to find a criminal, but in this case, Jacob was far from a young criminal and so, she got attached.
Harley wasn’t about to admit to this stranger that she was desperate to solve this missing persons case. She played it cool, though not very satisfied with the very few locations he had written down. Judging from the prior display of confliction on his face, there was a chance since he was unfamiliar with New York City, that he knew what the other locations looked like, just not the addresses. At least she hoped. This left Harley open to hooking him right into helping her. Nodding in understanding, she placed the notebook back where she had first got it from. “Well, thanks for that. It may be only a few addresses, but at least it’s something.”
She wasn’t oblivious to a person having something further to say, so when he looked about to say something she noticed it. When he offered his help to her, she found that as an opportunity to take him up on his offer and hopefully get whatever was on his mind. Who knows, maybe whatever was on his mind could help her find Jacob. “I could definitely use the back-up. When I came here, I wasn’t expecting locations and only answers. Since it’s a bit late to call in the cavalry to check these addresses out, I figure I probably need the back-up. Who knows what I’d be walking into when I get to these places. That’s if you’re not busy, of course.”
Back-up? Really? She thought and mentally punched herself. The guy was wearing a suit and a long coat. He looked like a business guy, not a fighter. If she really did need back-up, she had a feeling they would both be in heaps of trouble. Not only would she have to save her own ass, but she’d have him to worry about, too. It was the price she paid for wanting help and more information.

the innocence you stole from these eyes A genuine smile graced Castiel's features, visibly happy that his services had been useful. Years had passed since the powerless angel had felt of value to someone. In the past he always figured it had been his abilities that made him such a good ally, that was the reason why the Winchesters endured him, was it not? That and his knowledge on the supernatural world. What was left these days? Only the information seared into his brain. No longer could he hear the voices of his brethren, nor could he smite demons or other creatures. With his wings gone, he wasn't even able to move from one place to another without putting a lot of effort in it. Cas had to rely on his combat skills. So far they hadn't been used and a part of him firmly hoped this wouldn't be demanded of him in the near future, not before he reached the bunker. The last thing he wanted, was to leave a trail of blood in his wake as he crossed borders. With his current encounter with the law enforcement, the former seraph deemed it better to stay low. And act normal, how difficult it might seem. His task hadn't quite come to an end yet. There was more for him to do, such as tagging along and helping this unknown female with her quest. It then dawned on him that he didn't know her name, not yet. At least that thought kept him from smiling like an idiot. The prospect of being busy and doing something that served a certain purpose, made him ... happy. Castiel figured that was an accurate description of the strongest emotion coursing through him at this very moment. For weeks, if not months, he had felt miserable, a burden weighing down on him as he attempted to fix what he had broken. The only problem was that, in doing so, everything crumbled under his touch. For a brief moment he feared the same thing might happen here but if he tried his hardest, then surely nothing could happen? "If my assistance can help you in any way, then I will try to be useful as much as possible," he then stated with a firm nod of his head. "And since I don't have anything to do, I absolutely don't mind coming along." Once more the smile appeared, revealing some of the excitement that Castiel felt himself. He couldn't really help it: if there was a task that needed to be fulfilled, then he was more than eager to get started on it. "My name is Cas," he then introduced himself and held out his hand for her to shake, thinking it would be an appropriate thing to do. "Where will we be going first?" It was an attempt to move things along. Perhaps if they left now, they could finish a few things on the female's imaginary to do-list. Cas even liked to believe that she would make more progress than initially expected today. After all he had been more helpful than she thought he would be so why not continue down that road? Harley watched in amusement and took notice at every expression the man before her expressed. She met all kinds of people, but this one in particular was different from anyone she had ever come across. She didn’t think he was crazy by any means, but she did find him amusing and peculiar. There was no way this guy could even be involved in Jacob’s disappearance; at least not in an intentional way. Even though she had her doubts, she wasn’t going to rule him out just yet.
In her experience, she had learned that everyone was guilty till proven otherwise. One encounter with this guy wasn’t going to take him off her radar even if she had her doubts. After all, when it came to missing people, Harley always tried to think with her head instead of her gut. So far, it hadn’t failed her.
Why did she want to laugh every single time he’d smile? It was probably because he’d smile, and then stop doing it only to smile again like he was in his own little world. Harley had to cover her mouth in hopes he hadn’t taken notice to her colossal amused grin that was plastered on her face and trying hard not to laugh. Harley was more than glad he agreed to help her and nodded, letting him know she appreciated his help. She hoped, the nod would relay that because speaking at that moment was proving to be hard. She feared she might end up giggling instead and Harley never giggled.
Somewhat finally getting a grip, she took his hand and cleared her throat trying to shake off her amusement the best she could. “I’m Harley.” She squeaked out oddly. Damn she was bad at this. “Um, thanks for agreeing to help. I figure we should start at the nearest address.”
At this point she was back to normal and no longer was acting like an idiot. Harley wished she’d be professional, but sometimes she had her moments. “Alright, let’s go. My car is right around the corner.” She pointed behind her and stuffed her hands in her pocket a bit awkwardly, not knowing how she’d feel about a non-handcuffed stranger sitting in her passenger seat. There was always a first for everything , she thought.
With that, she started to walk in that particular direction, hoping he’d follow.

the innocence you stole from these eyes The former seraph was completely oblivious to the fact that he himself was a suspect in this case. In many ways he was still naive when it came down to someone's intentions. To him, Harley desired information. And now his assistance which he would gladly give her. The thought that she might be awaiting the opportunity for him to go off on the sly, hadn't crossed his mind once so far. After all she had come to him with a clear objective: drawing intel from him. That was exactly what he would give. Telling the truth was still the most simple thing one could do, at least it was to Castiel. Telling one lie hadn't gotten him far and it was a situation he didn't want to find himself in again. However ... A slightly pondering expression crossed his features. Not telling something and lying, weren't those two very different things? In the end one was being vile but what was the better solution? Hiding the truth or present a different reality? It was a dilemma Cas would occupy himself when he was alone. After the introduction the male quickly followed after Harley to get to her car. He tucked his hands away in the pockets of his coat, looking much more relaxed than he was a bit earlier. The prospect of being able to do something, to help, put his mind at ease. At least he would be useful and perhaps he wouldn't blame himself as much for what had happened to Jacob, knowing he had done what he could to help. The once angel doubted it would take all of the guilt away but he would try and quite frankly, that was all he could do for now. As his gaze scanned their surroundings, Castiel allowed his mind to wander to various places. One of them was the subject they addressed at the start of their conversation, something that puzzled him still. "Does it happen a lot? That you are attacked or threatened I mean?" Bright blue eyes then moved over to the female beside him, pondering how long she had been doing this job and how many times it had occurred that someone tried to kill her, rather than giving the answers she needed. "And why would one do such a thing? Are they afraid problems might arise?" His brows pulled together to form a frown, giving away genuine confusion. It wasn't something he could help: once the questions started to come to mind, he wasn't able to put a halt to it. Go go go team! || tag: Harley Template by Loki @ Proboards Support

It didn’t take long for her black beat up BMW to come into view as they walked. From the looks of it, Harley probably needed to depart with it and think about getting new wheels, but it still ran and took her from point A to point B, and that is all that mattered to her. Besides, she didn’t have money to spare on a new car. It was a good thing she had an older brother who was good at fixing cars as a job or else her car would stand no chance in the next few months. Then she would have to be forced to buy a car she couldn’t afford.
It wasn’t a surprise to Harley that she had forgotten his earlier question about her encountering less than kind people on her job. She often forgot things and things people have said. Thinking about it now, she remembered only giving him a very vague answer to his curious question. It was strange to her that anyone would even care to know why people harmed her. So when he questioned it, it looked like he cared which only made him less of a suspect than he ought to be.
Harley shrugged and only made brief eye contact with him as they approached her car. “If I am not attacked at least 4 times a month, it means I am not doing my job right.” She answered with a grin, making a joke. “In all seriousness though, I get attacked often. It doesn’t help that the two jobs I have chosen put me in danger on a daily basis, either.”
Walking around to the driver’s side of her car, she unlocked it, opened it and then unlocked all the doors with just a switch of a button. This was New York City and leaving your door unlocked got things stolen and she wasn’t about to say goodbye to her radio. Propping both arms on the roof of her car and folding them, she looked at him with a sideways glance in thought. “I guess people just think I work for the police, ask too many questions I shouldn’t be asking, and stick my nose where it don’t belong. Maybe, they think I am just asking for it? It’s whatever. They are very misinformed people. I only work for cops on Tuesdays and if they hadn’t seen my missing person or skippers, I wouldn’t have to come to them for information.”
With that, she grinned and hopped into her car, shutting her door as she did, and then leaned across the passenger seat to open the door for the curious guy she just met.

the innocence you stole from these eyes Attentively the former seraph listened to Harley's words but rather than clarifying the situation, it puzzled him even more. He knew that not every human was the same - the Winchesters were the perfect example of that - but why not tell the others of her intentions? All she wanted to do was find this missing person and wasn't it to everyone's benefit that that particular individual was alive and well? Once more Castiel's brows knitted together to a frown, revealing his confusion concerning the entire situation. Still, it didn't mean he would give up on understanding. As he came to a standstill at the passenger's door of the car, he still hadn't said a word or given a remark in response to her words. It wasn't until her next phrases reached him that it shed a light on the troublesome nature of her work. "In a way people are afraid you might find out something ..." He then muttered, silently thinking to himself that some kinds of business weren't allowed to see the light of day. He could easily trace this sort of behaviour back to himself. What was the easiest solution to a problem when one felt threatened? Deceiving, lying, every kind of practice to save your own skin was suddenly allowed. And it was something Cas was guilty of himself. Not only with Crowley a few years ago but now as well. In order to get to the bunker in Kansas, he had to lie his way through different sorts of events. It was his only option if he wanted to make it out alive, if he wanted to reach the brothers and tell them what happened. With a few nods of his head, the male attempted to push the thoughts aside and give away that he understood. Sometimes, when you wanted to help others, you had to put yourself in danger. Not everyone cared about the health and welfare of others. "I think I understand now. Thank you." A smile on his lips accompanied the words while he watched her getting in the car. When his own door was unlocked, Castiel got in as well and closed the door behind him. "What made you choose this kind of work?" He asked while he fastened the seatbelt. He knew that much had to be done before one could leave. Go go go team! || tag: Harley Template by Loki @ Proboards Support
