darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong The soft voice on the other end of the line didn’t stop blabbering. Jimmy Novak raised his hand and rubbed his temple, his other hand holding the phone close to his ear so he wouldn’t miss a word the other person was saying. The words soon became a mix of sounds, unintelligible for the young father as he struggled to stay awake. It wasn’t that late but a few hours had passed since his last meal so he was in desperate need of some energy, which could easily be provided by a burger or two. The day had been going on for a very long time as well. Starting early in the morning usually meant one could quit sooner but then something came up and Jimmy had to come to the office. Ever since he had been stuck answering phone calls and this one was supposed to be the last one. Unfortunately the woman on the other end had decided to draw it out to such an extent that Jimmy was battling fatigue.
As another ‘uhu’ fell from his lips the male leaned back in his chair and glanced at the clock. If he didn’t end this conversation now, then he would be late to pick up Claire. Getting her to the church already had been a puzzle. If it hadn’t been for Amelia then she would have missed the choir practice. Wondering how on earth he was going to put an end to this conversation in a decent manner, he groaned. The voice on the other side suddenly stopped talking. Silence ruled the exchange, both of them feeling somewhat awkward about the sudden turn. Just as silent as before, the woman asked if everything was alright, wondering if he wasn’t sick. This was the opportunity he had been waiting for.
”Yeah, I um … I haven’t been feeling well today so I would love to get some rest.” An apology followed soon after. Without thinking Jimmy ended the phone call, not even realizing they had to arrange a new date to have this conversation. Again. A silent prayer went up to the heavens, thanking to Lord for saving him. With the phone call put behind him, the young man quickly gathered his stuff and put them in his suitcase. After putting on his coat he made his way out of the office, switching the lights off behind him and locking the doors. Only a few minutes later he found himself sitting behind the wheel of his car, leaving his parking spot so he could race downtown and join Claire at the church. With a bit of luck he could catch the last bit of her practice.
After what seemed to have lasted an eternity, the car finally entered the small parking lot in front of the church. The motor died a few seconds later after which Jimmy got out. His breathing frosted in the sky when he exhaled, closing his eyes for a brief moment as he could hear the calm and faint voices from the choir drifting outside. It would be a shame to go in, since his sudden presence might distract them. If anything the male didn’t want to break the concentration of the singers but … sitting in the car outside, waiting for Claire to finish her practice, wasn’t an appealing option either. Opening his eyes again, Jimmy walked up to the big wooden doors of the church and pushed against it. Softly, without trying to make a sound, he slipped in.
With a low thud the door fell closed behind him. Quickly Jimmy moved over to the last row of benches, not wanting to draw too much attention. As he wrapped the coat a bit tighter around him, he took a seat close to the aisle. Then his bright blue eyes landed upon the choir up at the front. Soon his gaze found that one familiar figure and as sound as that happened, a smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

I can't hide the scars I wear from a once promising affair I should have never signed that deal the wounds it caused won't heal So be careful of desire beware the tempting fire it might be fatal Can I drive this message home and save a life from going wrong, am I able?
The holiday season was closing in around them, various festive lights and bits of holly were already being strung up around the city. The quiet homes of Pontiac had become a vast assortment of candy colored ornaments and brown colored reindeer that pulled makeshift sleighs that were topped with a jolly fellow decked in red. It was a time for celebrating, for feasting and most of all, being with one's family. It was a season that Claire Novak absolutely adored. It was during this time of year that snow fell from the heavens and blanketed the world in a seemingly never ending sheet of iridescent white. It was the time of year that carols were sung, calling out to the faithful to join in and remember the meaning of the holiday.
This was a time that her family's church choir gathered together to rehearse for their Christmas concert. It was something the young girl had participated in for as long as she could remember. Today was no different, another rehearsal had been called for the children's choir and Claire wasn't about to miss that. But, with her dad's busy schedule it was slightly impossible for him to bring her to the church on time, thus the job fell to her mother, Amelia. Claire didn't mind, she loved spending time with both of her parents equally, it just so happened that she could be a bit of a daddy's girl on some various occasions and this was one of them.
The church had already begun it's holiday decorating, even this early in the month. Boughs of holly twisted and turned around the windows and doorways. A large ornate red bow was placed at the top of the arch way that lead into the church proper and the nativity scene was seen from nearly everywhere within the religious building.
The young blonde gave a quick wave to her mother before disappearing inside the depths of the house of worship, her fingers already unzipping her winter coat as she hurried to the back to change into her choir robe of pure white and make her way back to the front of the church to join up with the rest of the choir. The rehearsal time went by quickly, song after song being sung through as their voices raised up to the heavens. The time made very little difference to the young girl as she was quickly finding out she had a love for music that was starting to show through in her voice.
The last song was quickly picked out, the music began to play as the front doors opened and Claire's eyes raised toward the entrance to catch sight of a familiar figure. A smile lit up her features as her blue eyes landed upon her dad, a feature that she had obviously inherited from him as she gave a slight wave before refocusing her attention upon the choir director. The song barely came to an end before Claire was rushing down the center aisle toward the male, her bright smile still placed upon her lips as she skidded to a halt at the end of the bench. "What did you think??? Did we sound ok?" excitement clearly painting through her voice as she looked up at him. "I can't wait for the concert, you're gonna be here, right?"

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong It didn't take long for Jimmy to recognize the last song the choir started on. Much like he had introduced his daughter to this church, his father had taken him here as well. The Novaks seemed to be a part of Pontiac, having lived here for as long as one could remember. Jimmy suspected the origins of the family were rooted in a different part of the world but they were here now and nothing was going to chase them away. There was no reason to move, for the city had everything one could hope for: good schools, a welcoming community and their neighbours were friendly people. The only thing that could be better was his job. Selling advertisement time on the radio wasn't exactly the occupation he pictured himself doing when he was young. Despite the fact that he was good at what he did - after a while one learned the tricks of this business - he wanted to do something different. Something more ... exciting? Was that the right word? He had no idea but a change was more than welcome.
What did you think? Did we sound okay?
The familiar voice pulled the male back to reality. For a brief moment he was disoriented, wondering where he was and what he was doing. As soon as his surroundings grew recognizable once more, he had no problem recalling why he was here. "You didn't sound okay ..." He then replied and slid across the bench to be a bit closer to Claire. "I think you sounded amazing," he then said, a playful grin gracing his features as he looked at her. Perhaps it was a mean thing to do but Jimmy knew the compliment would make up for it. And if that didn't, then dinner might.
Leaning towards her, he pulled her in for a hug. A tight, loving hug that he had to let go of too soon. "You will blow everyone away with your performance, that much I'm sure of." He then pressed a kiss to her forehead. Every year he wondered just how the choir would top their previous performance but some way or another, they achieved that goal. And every year Jimmy told his daughter that the group would do great. Slightly different words but the same message was embedded over and over again. Whether or not Claire asked for confirmation, he would give it to her, knowing that it pleased another person if you paid attention to the details. One kept in mind that the other person was participating in a major event and giving a positive remark or asking a question to reveal your interest, always overjoyed the other person.
"Of course I will be here!" His voice echoed through the church, demanding a bit more attention than what was necessary. To apologize he held up his hand, as to say that there was nothing going on. "If I weren't here to watch you and hear you sing, I would never be able to forgive myself. And then you would get to make up a punishment for me and that's something I don't want to happen."

"You didn't sound okay ..."
A slight pout pulled across the youth's face at his words as she looked up at him with large eyes. "...Daddy" A slight whine strung through the word as she pulled it out to it's last syllable. Of course Claire knew her father was joking, at least she hoped that was the case, if not then she couldn't imagine what the choir would do to try and turn the tide of the show before the performance time came around. However, that wouldn't be the case as the male's next words caused her lips to turn up at the corners and a bright smile to color her features just as easily as the frown had. Her slender arms wrapped about him, returning the hug with just as much enthusiasm, for a moment she tighten her hold on him, not wanting him to pull away, but the action happened regardless.
Round eyes stared up at Jimmy as Claire fidgeted a bit with her white choir robe, clearly excited as she looked at him. "Really? You think so? You saw me right?" She questioned, the answer obvious as she was one of the shorter members of the children's choir and thus placed toward the front of the group as to be seen a bit more by the audience. Claire didn't mind in the least, she wasn't like the others, the blonde very rarely got a case of stage fright, if anything it was the other way around. The excitement, the thrill of being on the stage was something she loved and couldn't help but openly welcome the chance to move closer to the front of the group so that perhaps not only could the audience see her, but she could see them.
Her smile only grew more in size as his next words were spoken and the youth let out a giggle, shaking her head a little, the action causing golden colored lochs to bounce around her shoulders as she did so. "No...you don't get a punishment" Claire smiled, her words pulling out a little to hang in the air for a brief moment as she gave him a teasing glance. "It just means you have to buy me ice cream when I want" Another giggle passed through her lips as she spoke, struggling to keep a straight face, but failing miserably at it.
A slight rumble from her stomach gave a signal of the youth's hunger as she looked up at the male once again, a hopeful glance within her eyes as she did so. "Is it almost time for dinner?"

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong Jimmy was unable to suppress a chuckle when he heard his daughter's reaction. He couldn't help but tease her every so often, Amelia had to go through the same torture sometimes. A bad sense of humour but one both women loved. At least he thought they did. The only complaint he got, was when they reacted to his statements. Both of them had the same whiny undertone since they wanted Jimmy to continue, finish his train of thought so they would know he was joking. After all these years both of them were aware he didn't want to harm them, both physically and mentally. All he wanted for them was to be happy and a compliment sometimes helped.
Relief soon flooded the youth's features when he continued. A series of emotions then seemed to succeed one another as she shot him one question after another. The chuckle from earlier returned, but it soon transformed into a joyous laugh, clearly appreciating her curiosity and enormous amount of energy after such a long day. She was getting older and long days didn't seem to put a strain on Claire. A fact that both pleased and saddened him. The sooner she grew up, the sooner his little girl would want to go out, explore different things and sometimes she would cross boundaries he didn't approve of. All of this though, was something to worry about in a few years.
He smiled the sadness away that reigned his being for a brief moment. "I saw you. You always stand out." After speaking these words he leaned in closer to her, like he wanted to share a secret with her. "I bet that, during the performance, everyone in the church will be looking at you." He then leaned back but not before he tipped her nose. Of course the male wasn't entirely sure what people would look at exactly but chances were everyone would take in every member of the choir, Claire too and she automatically drew more attention by standing toward the front.
The smile fell when his daughter mentioned he wouldn't receive a punishment. A horrified expression took the place of the playful one. All of it was an act though, since Jimmy liked to draw out games like this. It was easy to get lost in another world and with Claire, he never had to be afraid that she wouldn't play along. "No punishment ..?" A scared tone edged in his voice, giving away that the final solution was even more dreaded than what he had in mind up until now. "No, not the ice cream!" At that point Jimmy almost looked like he was about to die. As soon as the expression had come, it vanished again. "Wait, that's not so bad ..." His brows knitted together to a frown upon realizing this after which he gave a few nods of approval. "Okay, if I don't show up, I will give you ice cream when you want it. This for an entire year. Deal?" He held out his hand to her, wanting to seal the deal.
Ice cream wouldn't be happening any time soon though for Claire was in desperate need of some food. As was he. "It's time for dinner when you want it to be. If you get changed then we can go and grab some food if you want."

"Deal!" Her fingers wrapped around his, the size of his hand slightly dwarfing that of his daughter's as Claire's smile quickly turned into a playful toothy grin. Of course the child could never think up a proper punishment for her father, but she would try to weasel a bit of a treat from the man once in awhile, if she could. She had always been a daddy's girl, when it came to trying to get a treat out of her mother, the youth found it far more difficult. But to stay mad at her dad was something else that the young blonde also found hard as well.
A quick nod was given to his last words as Claire easily turned on her heel and started to race down the long center aisle of the church, the snowy colored fabric of her choir robe billowed out behind her as she did so. The only thing slowing her down was the stern look from the Father, an apologetic look covered youthful features as the young girl slowed her step, head lowered as she made her way to the back of the church, disappearing into a side room to change out of the robe. Several moments passing before the youth emerged once again, dressed in her casual clothing, the zipper to her coat down as she brushed a few wayward strains of golden colored hair from her face. A smile returned to her lips as she glanced over her shoulder, seeing the Priest busy with another matter and picked up her pace a little more to return to Jimmy's side.
"Ok, I'm ready" The words were quickly spoken as the young girl fiddled slightly with the zipper of her coat before finally pulling it up and successfully closing it, protecting the blonde from the chilly winder winds that plagued the outside world. Claire turned to the large oak doors of the church and gave the bronze door handle a tug, managing to open the door a slight bit before pushing it open and allowing father and daughter to escape the warmth and enter the natural world. "Are we gonna cook something?" The youth questioned with a glance up toward her father with a smile at the idea of cooking. Her mind shifting through the various dishes they had made together, things that went back as far as she could remember. But there was of course the bonus treat of getting something to eat out, it was a rare treat and something the blonde always looked forward to.
Claire's even footsteps brought her closer to Jimmy's car as she stopped at the passenger side door. "You know I was suppose to be in the back." The youth tossed the comment over her shoulder as she walked, a smile lacing her features as she spoke. "But I got moved to the front, guess I'm to short for the back" A shrug rolled across her shoulders as she looked up at him, waiting for the door to unlock as she smiled up at him.

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong With a smile on his lips Jimmy watched how his daughter disappeared into one of the siderooms of the church. The action was accompanied of so much energy that the father shot her a look, casting her a wordless warning. The man's gaze followed her once she slowed down, as if he didn't trust her. Jimmy then rose to his feet, his coat making a rustling noise as he did so. Immediately he drew the attention of the other male. An apologetic look crossed his features, "My apologies, she's just so excited to be a part of the choir during the holidays." The man then seemed to understand this and gave a nod of his head. Now that it was sorted Jimmy moved over towards the aisle and looked at the altar, patiently awaiting Claire's return.
A few minutes later the hurried footsteps returned after which they moved on to the door. As soon as it was opened, the icy wind blew in, biting in Jimmy's cheeks. This was the part he always hated the most. Whenever he was warm and cosy, the male didn't want to leave that beacon of warmth. If he had to get up in the morning, knowing the cold air soon sunk down and nestled in his bones, he could already be grumpy. He then tucked himself in a bit more, taking full advantage of the few minutes he had left before he would get up and face the cold world outside. This was a bit of the same. The problem wasn't the cold itself that he had to fight but the fact that it lingered. It would take a hold of your body and even if you were warm and safe inside, you would still shiver with cold.
This was the reason why Jimmy moved over to his car rather quickly. The thin coat he was wearing, wouldn't protect him from the cold. At least not for long. His hand already dug into the pocket of his coat when he heard Claire's voice. "Do you want to?" While going through his rather small set of keys, he asked the question. Rapidly he found the right key. The only problem now was to get it in the keyhole as he was trembling from the cold. It was still an old car but one Jimmy loved so he didn't want to give it up just yet. The doors or steering wheel had to be missing before he even considered taking a new one. "I know your mother doesn't expect us home soon and I don't know if we have enough to actually cook a dinner." He frowned at his own words, troubled by the fact he had no idea what one could find in the cabinets at home. "Unless you want mashed biscuits with some pasta sauce ..."
Finally he unlocked the car after which he slipped into the driver's seat. Once he had slammed the door shut behind him, he started the car and turned up the heating. A relieved sigh fell from his lips, sinking back into the chair. From the corner of his eye he watched his daughter, frowning slightly as he remembered what she said just before they got into the car. "They did? The front is a good place to be. Everyone can see you and you can see everyone." He then turned his head so he was able to look at her, "Or aren't you happy with that?"

Claire climbed into the car as soon as the door was unlocked. The sharp chill of the winter wind having cut clear through her coat and seemed to chill her to the bone. Her plush cheeks had already turned a rosy hue thanks to the bite of the wind as the blonde settled into the car seat and mirrored her dad's grateful sigh as the heat was turned on. A moment passed as she turned in her seat, fumbling for the seat belt and clicking it into place. Once that was done the young girl smiled as she slouched in her seat and turned her head to look over at Jimmy as he spoke.
Her nose wrinkled at his suggested dinner and she quickly shook her head. "EW!!! Gross! no, lets get something to eat out" WIth a nod of her head the blonde agreed with her own words as she smiled brightly and turned her head to stare out of the car window. The small city was slowly starting to get ready for the holidays. It was obvious that a change in the season was coming, just from the sharp wind that raced through the city. Winter was here and so with it, the holidays.
The young Novak bounced with excitement at that idea, Christmas time was always a big deal for her, it was a time to not only get gifts, but give them as well. It was something that Claire enjoyed the most, giving someone a surprise and seeing the look on their face as they opened it. It was one of the only things she looked forward to, beyond the decorations, giving to others was something she was always taught to do and something that had stayed with her.
A quick nod was given to his words as Claire shifted in her seat to turn her gaze back upon her dad as a wide smile pulled across her lips at the words. "I like being in front. It makes me feel special" The words caused her eyes to brighten, the blue hues sparkling with clear excitement. "And guess what. " Once the words were spoken she left them hanging, wanting the drama of the moment to pull through the air before she spoke once again. "I get a solo!"
A squeal followed after the words as Claire bounced slightly in her seat. "Well I mean...it's not long or anything..just like a couple lines in a song" A shrug rolled across her shoulders as she faced forward once again. "But, yeah. Still kinda cool, right?" A questioning look took over her features as she tossed the male a sideways glance, hopeful of the answer she would receive.

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong A laugh slipped past his lips when Jimmy heard his daughter's reaction. Some combinations of food - strange combinations - were edible but not all of them. Mashing some ingredients together and see what came out of it, it was an experiment the male had conducted when he was young. Sometimes you had to fulfil your own needs even though the cabinets had little to nothing to offer. The weird mixtures he had made in the past, wasn't something he wanted to share with Claire. Some of them were quite horrible and he didn't want her to get sick. Not because of him and his strange ideas, so when she agreed to going to a diner, he started the car. "Our usual address, madame?" He then proposed, knowing that they didn't go to a diner often but when they did, it was always the same one.
As Jimmy put the car into the right gear, he listened to her words. "There is no need for you to feel special. You just are." The statement was accompanied of a faint smile. It was a cheesy thing to say and he was very much aware of it but still ... If he didn't get to say it now, then when would the next opportunity arise? Not anytime soon, that much was for sure. And he had no idea how much longer Claire would appreciate his dumb comments either.
The car hadn't even left the parking lot before it came to a standstill abruptly. "You are getting a solo? How long do you know this? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Excitement clearly coloured his voice when he asked the questions. He then leaned in and pulled her into another hug, something she deserved after getting her solo. Well, she deserved more than that and if she wanted, then she would get a reward. For now, he couldn't help but be proud of her. "I will have to keep myself from jumping up and applauding after you finish your solo." The proud smile was soon replaced by a grin, a teasing one, as if he were truly planning on embarrassing her in front of the whole church. In reality he would sit there, with a huge smile plastered on his face because he couldn't hide his pride.
After pulling away from her he wanted to continue the drive. The car moved a few inches before stopping again. "Wait, seatbelt." Quickly he fastened it, shooting Claire a look. "You are distracting me with your great news." Now entirely ready he grabbed the steering wheel once more and then allowed the vehicle to drive off the parking lot. "It's a solo! It doesn't matter how long it is, it's a solo. I don't think it can get any better than that ..." Because really, was there anything else that could top this? It was doubtful but the holidays were peeking around the corner and that was when most miracles took place.

A nod was given in answer to his question as Claire settled down into the seat, happy that the car was warming up and gave a bright smile. A smile that turned even wider when her words registered upon her father's mind, soon the young girl found herself enveloped in a warm hug, one that caused as splattering of giggles to spill from her as she snuggled against his chest. The scent off his coat reminded her of the outside world, and also a bit of his office. It was comforting and she silently closed her eyes as the smile remained upon her lips. "I just found out" The blonde giggled as she stayed where she was, warm in the male's embrace.
A soft gasp pulled free as she looked up at him with wide eyes. "Daddy! don't! that'd be so embarrassing!" With the words spoken, the youth buried her face against his chest as if dreading the thought of his applause. Secretly, Claire couldn't wait for that day, up until now she had only been a part of the choir; a voice that mingled with the masses of others that made up the children's choir. But now, she would be pulled to the front, allowed to sing without the accompaniment of the other voices around her. True, the solo would be brief, and perhaps not very memorable to the majority of patrons to the church, but it would be enough for the youth.
"Well...I mean you can clap...if you want" A slight giggle made it's way forward, round eyes staring up at him with a bright smile following suit. "I wouldn't mind that, just like...no jumping up and stuff, ok?" Once more slight laugh came forward, the youth taking the time to give her father one last squeeze before pulling away to sit properly in her seat once again. Soon they were off and once more the blonde turned her attention toward the window, staring as the various building passed by the car window, silently basking in the praise from her father.
A thoughtful expression took over her youthful features, head tilting to the side as she gave his words a serious amount of thought. "Uhm...I dunno" Once more the child let loose with a giggle as she turned her head to look at him. "Well, it would have been better if I had a whole song to sing instead of just a couple of lines" For a moment her lips turned into a pout, eyes lowering to her lap as she mumbled softly. "That would have been better" The youth mumbled, clearly forgetting to be thankful for the fact that she had a solo to begin with when the others did not.

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong "Are you sure? I can make this an event no one will forget." A playful tone coloured his voice, his eyes trained on the road before them as they made their way to the diner. If he could, then he would make it a moment no one in the church would ever forget. "Isn't that what you want? To be famous forever?" While speaking the words, a grin formed on his lips, giving away that he was only joking. Jimmy was far from done though. It was always so much fun to tease Claire, just to see her reaction. So far he had never lived up to the embarrassing promises he had made but there was a first time for everything. And in the end, wasn't that why parents were around? To fluster their children? A spark became visible in his eyes as he looked at his daughter briefly, "I can give you fame, you just need to tell me." The mental image of him jumping up, perhaps even taking out a banner with her name on it, all of it caused the male to chuckle. He simply couldn't help it, it was too funny to dismiss it.
He then calmed down somewhat as the subject of the conversation turned serious. The grin vanished from his features, giving a nod of his head to reveal that he heard her. Silence then hung in car, thinking over her words once more. "I can understand that but ..." A sigh slipped past his lips, letting the car slow down as the traffic-light changed to red. Slowly the car came to a standstill after which he looked at Claire. "You have to see this as the start of something. Okay, it's just a few lines. It might not be much but if you work really hard on these few lines and deliver them better than anyone could have imagined, then maybe more will follow. A couple of lines this time, a few more next time and before you know it, you have an entire song as a solo." An eyebrow was raised once he finished his little speech. Jimmy could imagine why she was somewhat disappointed but if she worked hard, then she would reach her goals, like she always did. "Any little song that you know, everything that's small has to grow." A smile then tugged at the corner of his lips, remembering the song by Led Zeppelin. It was strangely accurate.
A honk suddenly made the male aware of the fact that he was still in traffic. The light had changed to green once more and the drivers behind him were already getting impatient since he was still stationary. "Yes, yes, I get it." Jimmy cast his rear view mirror an angry glance, as if it would reach the other chauffeurs and let them cringe in shame. He quickly changed gears and hit the gas pedal, the car then rolled forward and crossed the intersection. "We have to turn left at the next light, right?" It was a question he always asked since he was unable to remember where the diner was located, it illustrated how little he knew about this diner and where it was located. Perhaps they should make this trip more often.

"Dad, no, just no" Claire shook her head, the blonde lochs dancing about her face as she did so, her voice spoken in a would be grown up sounding tone. Although the expression upon her features was one that could be considered embarrassed, a smile still played upon her lips as she tried to keep herself from laughing. Jimmy always had a way to pull a smile across his daughters lips, something that would hopefully never change as she got older. "Well I mean, I want to be famous, but not like that" Once again a laugh pulled from rosebud colored lips as the youth allowed her smile to become more pronounced then it was before, casting the figure beside her with that same smile.
The light switched from a crimson red to the trademark green, the signal to go, but as Claire was just as distracted as Jimmy was, the hook of the horn caused the youth to jump slightly in her seat. Her head turned, glancing through the back windshield at the car behind them before facing forward once again. "Oops" The young girl smiled as she gave a slightly embarrassed blush at having distracted her dad enough to completely disregard the traffic light.
"Uh huh" Claire nodded with a smile at his question as she resumed staring out her passenger side window once again as she took a breath and started up the conversation. "Daddy...." She began in a slow tone, her expression curious as she did so. "What do you want for Christmas?" The youth questioned with an arch of her eyebrow as she cut him a sideways glance. After a bit of saving, Claire finally had enough money stashed away to buy -albeit- small gifts for her parents. Now, she just needed ideas one what to get them.

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong With various topics of the conversation closed and put behind them, Jimmy concentrated on the road more. He didn't want to hinder traffic even more than he already had done and if he dared to lose his concentration, then it might have disastrous consequences. The thought of them getting involved in a car accident, sent a shiver down his spine. Quickly the male pushed the troublesome thoughts aside, switching on the traffic indicator, when they reached the next intersection, and turned left. In the meantime he tried to give Claire the necessary attention, not wanting her to feel left out or as if he didn't seem interested in what she had to say. She wasn't telling him stories of what she had seen or done today, instead she asked him what he wanted for Christmas. As soon as the words had dawned on him, he frowned slightly. "I don't think I want anything."
What was he supposed to ask? In his spare time he did some work around the house but he didn't really have a hobby. Something that he really enjoyed was cooking but really ... He didn't want yet another cook book for Christmas. Amelia would probably receive one of those when they went to visit her family. It would be yet another thing to add to the pile of useless stuff. It was a surprise their shelves weren't cracking under the weight of those books.
That, however, wasn't his major concern. Jimmy would feel guilty for ... stealing money away from his daughter for a present. Of course, it wouldn't be stealing in the exact sense of the word but it didn't sit right with him. Slowly he shook his head, making up his mind. "You should save your money for later. Perhaps you see something you like and you can spend your money on that." From the corner of his eye he looked at her, a faint smile gracing his features. The male then soon went back to looking at the road, his bright blue eyes darting from one building to another, hoping he would spot the diner.

"Dad~" Claire groaned softly, slouching a little in her seat as she turned her head to stare out of the window. Her expression one that was obvious to the older teenager she would about to become. "All parents say that" With that said the youth turned her head to look at her dad, a fair eyebrow raised upon her forehead in an arch as she did so. "C'mon, it's not fair I get something and you don't, you have to at least tell me something" For a moment the youth went quiet, her lips tilted to one side as she sat in thought for a moment or two.
"Mom told me what she wanted" The teen lied before biting her lip as she shook her head a bit. "Well maybe not in so many words....but like, she did say she would tell me later" Claire offered up, never having been a very good liar, she quickly turned her story around as she fidgeted a bit in her seat. If it was the fact that she was raised in a very devote family or not, but even as a younger child, the blonde had trouble with lying.
A slight sigh rolled over her lips as the youth stared out of the window, waiting a few moments to hear her father's judgement on her case. The silence was quickly broken when the young girl sat up in her seat, a smile appearing on her lips as she pointed out of the windshield. "Oh! there it is!" Claire called in a clearly excited tone as her finger pointed down to the approaching diner as her smile widen, an echo to her excitement.
"And besides..." The youth carried on the conversation as she sat back against her seat once again. "I've saved up, so it's not like I'm going to spend all my money. Just a little bit"

darling take me home to the castle made of skulls and bones sing me a song to remind me where I belong Upon hearing her words Jimmy couldn't help but smile lightly. Of course she wouldn't let go of the topic easily. Could he blame her for that? No, it was sweet to see just how eager she was to buy her parents a present but that didn't change his mind. Novaks could be stubborn and this was a trait both of them possessed. "Your mother deserves a present, doesn't she?" He then countered her words, fully convinced that Amelia did deserve to be surprised. Now Jimmy's deduction skills weren't the greatest but he did notice when his wife was clearly excited over something, hence why he had put some money aside every month. During the summer, when they made a trip to Chicago, Amelia had seen a nice necklace. Ever since the male had been waiting until he had enough money to go and buy it. If a large of money disappeared from his account, then Amelia would notice and start asking questions. So much for a surprise then.
Oh! There it is!
Jimmy was close to putting his foot on the brake and throwing the steering wheel to one side to get the car to a stop, Claire's shouting almost causing him to have a heart attack. The only spasm that did occur was a minor deviation to the side, almost crossing the line that divided the two lanes. When the car was heading down its original path once more, he allowed the vehicle to slow down, the indicator was turned on yet again as they approached the diner.
"What do you want me to tell you?" Quite easily he picked up the conversation, wondering just what he should ask. "I don't want you to buy something that I won't use in the future ..." The words were muttered while a pondering expression dominated his features. While he was thinking of something he could possibly ask, which was hard for he could not think of one single thing, he allowed the car to take the turn and let it enter the parking lot of the diner. Most of the people were already gone. The later on the evening, the scarcer the public in the diner. Rush hour had already passed, something Jimmy was grateful for. Now they wouldn't have to wait too long for their food to arrive. "What do you want to buy me? Do you have an idea?" He then asked while he turned off the engine and took the keys from the ignition.
