We all say that we'll
Quit someday
When our nerves ain't shot
And our hands don't shake, yeah
Quit someday
When our nerves ain't shot
And our hands don't shake, yeah
Stella is angry. Perhaps that was never the best way to put it, but growing up in a family that never quite felt fit to inform you that you're not even theirs sort of took it's toll on the young girl. She was twelve years old when she first received word from her birth mother, and from there it was all a downhill ride for both Stella and the family that had taken her in. Prior to her 12th birthday, Stella had been one of the most well behaved girls in her middle school. She did what was asked of her, most of time with very little complaint. Like most young girls, she had idolized the woman she had believed to be her mother, and she had followed along in the woman's very shadow every single day. That birthday changed everything dramatically, however.
Stella is a woman who puts a lot of faith in the word a person gives her, and to have learned that her family had been lying to her had taken it's toll. Of course she really should have known that she was by no means their child by birth, her Spanish appearance held a clear contrast to the pale skin and blond hair of the family that she grew up with. Still, for her, it seemed something that should have been mentioned - Perhaps on a birthday cake. Nothing quite says You're Adopted like candles and chocolate cake.
The day that she learned the truth changed everything, as any single person with a strand of common sense would assume. Stella began to lash out in the most passive aggressive ways that she could manage. The golden girl who never questioned a thing she was told to was long gone, replaced suddenly by a young teenager who was eager to anger and frustrate whoever she could. If she found a teacher obnoxious, she would spend half a class period questioning them and being as much of a pain as she could manage. Her methods were mediocre at best, until she met Kacey. Kacey was by no means stereotypically beautiful, but she was everything that Stella could have dreamed of. A young woman with blindingly pink hair, at least six visible piercings and tattoos painting her arms. Kacey was a good twelve years older than Stella, who was sixteen at the time, and Kacey was the epitome of everything that Stella's adopted family would despise. Stella loved it, and for that, she could at least pretend to love Kacey.
Life with Kacey was a mess of a ride. Stella's stubborn streak grew, any little bad habit that Kacey had, Stella picked it up. From drinking at 3am on a Tuesday night to lighting up a cigarette and pretending like she didn't give a damn about the world that she lived in. The fact that she claimed not to give a damn should have been all the evidence and more that Stella cared far more than she would ever be willing to let on. She wanted her family to be upset about her new relationship with Kacey. Stella wanted the Melody family to push and pull and beg her to leave Kacey, she wanted them to chase her down and tell her how much she meant to them. Stella wanted someone to fight for her, for just once in her life she wanted to feel like she meant something.
The Melody's never bothered. It wasn't exactly that they didn't care for their adopted daughter, though that was certainly the message that Stella picked up from her teenage years. It was rooted more in the fact that the Melody's realized that Stella was acting out due to her anger at her situation, and they recognized that there was nothing they could do to make her feel any better about it. So they did nothing, because in their eyes there was nothing they could do to fix things. All Stella wanted was them to tell her that she was wanted, and by failing to do just this one little thing, the Melody's would eventually lose her completely.
Stella's relationship with Kacey was toxic at best. When Kacey introduced the art of witchcraft and demon worship to the sixteen year old girl, well it was only downhill from there. Her dedication to angering the Melody family and forcing them to express their care for her was what pushed Stella into learning the art, but it was the rush of power that made her stay.
Kacey may have been one of the worst influences that Stella could have had in her life. Perhaps if the two had never met, Stella could have pulled through the shock of learning she'd been adopted, but once she started down the darker path with her pink haired girlfriend by her side the shadows swallowed up any hints of light or better days that could have been. There was no maybe if, from the second that Stella mastered her first summoning, she was stuck on a path that would never lead to any promising land. It would not really have mattered from that day if the Melody's wanted to reach out and help her or not, because even if they did there was no more saving the little girl who never complained. Darkness wrapped itself around her like a blanket, keeping Stella in a life full of contentment and never anything else.
Stella dropped out of High School on her 18th birthday and she swears that she never looked back or thought twice about it. The Melody's began to realize that they should have reached out sooner, but upon realizing that it was now too late to change anything they further neglected to tell Stella that she had anything important to offer the world. Stella left the Melody's household to begin living with Kacey, and a few months later she picked up a job at a local diner. She makes little money but between Kacey and herself, the two manage to scrape by.
On the side, Stella eventually began to sell her services to any young woman in the need of a love spell or a little vengeance. She takes pride in every dime of money that she managed to make by handing over a hex bag, because to her, it's a little corruption that goes a long way. Stella knows that her life has been destroyed, she gave up on the idea of potential a long time ago. She doesn't want to fix the world any longer, and she believes that she isn't even living in it at this point. Stella's only wish now is for destruction, because if she's gonna leave a mark, she believes that a scar is the only one she'll ever be able to manage. She isn't a saint, and at the end of the day it doesn't matter how wrong life has treated the sinner because if you're hurting others, you're all going to the same place. Stella's soul went to Hell the second she first started studying witchcraft.
